“How does a free one-week stay at a resort sound? All you have to do is come to a 90-minute presentation, free breakfast included!” Most of us have heard this before, but Natalie was completely unaware of what a timeshare was at the time, and had no idea that’s what this presentation would be for. This is when Natalie, who was pregnant at the time, was continuously deceived and rushed into a deal for a timeshare she’d never be able to use.
Below is a word for word account of the timeshare dilemma that Natalie experienced. We hope it will enlighten you on some of the tactics that the timeshare industry often uses on good, unsuspecting people. Names of people and companies have been changed and/or redacted for privacy concerns.
“It began when my family and I were given an opportunity for a free stay at a resort if we agreed to attend a short presentation. Before this experience, I had no knowledge of timeshares or what they were, and to be honest I’m still not quite sure. This short presentation over breakfast soon turned into an exhausting nightmare that went on for hours. Being pregnant at the time of this, I became extremely fatigued and nauseated from the relentless sales tactics and the hectic atmosphere they created.”
After a couple of hours into this presentation, Natalie’s husband decided to take their children out as they were getting too restless. This left Natalie in a compromising position that the salespeople took full advantage of.
“As soon as I was all alone, money became the center of the conversations and I could not find a way out. I was upfront from the beginning that I did not have the funds for this, but they just kept pushing different financing options on me like credit cards and fabricated discount rates. I did not understand much of this and was so tired from processing all the information already. I had no time to look at the numbers and calculate what this would be costing me in the long run, but they insisted it was a wonderful investment for my family and I needed to make my decision right now.”
Natalie was then rushed through the closing process and given more gifts such as a tablet and memberships to help relieve the second-guessing that she was already feeling. Once her family began trying to put this timeshare to use, they found out it was not this wonderful investment that they were sold on.
“Since purchasing my timeshare, my feelings of uncertainty only escalated as I began to realize that to use it, I would have to spend much more. I was encouraged to sign up for travel and cruise packages at no extra cost, but when I tried to do this we were asked to spend more money. We were already paying an excessive amount that was increasing at a drastic rate and if I had known the total cost of this purchase from the beginning, I would have never agreed to it in the first place.
That’s when Natalie and her family reached out to Wesley Financial Group, LLC. We were able to help cancel her timeshare promptly and she is now living free of stress from this experience.* If you know someone whose timeshare situation is similar to this, pass along our phone number below.
