The Timeshare Math Just Didn’t Add Up For William T.

William T., a Vietnam veteran, has enough to deal with in terms of mental health. His timeshare only adds on to his stress rather than providing relaxing vacations like he originally thought. Below is a firsthand account of the timeshare disaster that William T. experienced. Names of people and companies have been changed or removed for privacy reasons.

“There’s constant harassment on taxes and maintenance fees. I can't see how my taxes of $200 to $300 a year could possibly be a valid assessment for a two-bedroom condo. Especially in Florida, which has a low state tax history. Also, I don't ever remember the sales people saying that my ownership would go on into perpetuity. I would never want my debt to pass onto my family.”

Troubled by this financial stress, William remembers the lies he was told before signing up. Everything seemed fine at first. Then, the fees hit.

“They told me I would have all of the benefits of having a place to go on vacation. Amenities and other local attractions I would get discounts for. Another lie I was told was how easy it would be to finance my condo without any real understanding of what the ongoing fees would be and how expensive any changes could be. I was paying about $900 a year for taxes and maintenance. If they sold every week of the year, each condo would have cost $42,800. I don't know about you, but seems a little steep to me.”

Feeling like there wasn’t a way out, William saw a commercial on T.V. one night and it gave him hope.

“I didn't think I had any options. When the taxes and maintenance burden became more difficult, I was forced to stop paying which was against my upbringing. My father taught me better, but I felt trapped. I saw something on television, I called the number and got a response in a short time and the rest is history.”

We were able to help William terminate his timeshare allowing him to start planning for other travel plans that he’s wanted to make for a while now.

“I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and encouraging atmosphere to work in and with, and now I am about to receive the fruits of your labor. I can now start planning my trip to Europe that I would have never been able to afford before.”
